Lest you become me

A pensive stroll

The war has always been yours to fight,

I gave up our battle but I hope you will win your war.

Whom you spend time with is whom you will become,

I see your war, thus I can’t be what you would be.

Retracing “our” wave-worn footsteps, fading with each tide,

Were these footsteps mine only and the “ours” was my delusion?

Perhaps we may find camaraderie in peace…

What defines a person or our story anyway? War or peace?

Maybe the ending I need, is being okay with not knowing.
